Amazon said its Fire tablet and Fire TV Stick were top sellers on its website on Black Friday. The company said sales of its gadgets increased by three times over last year. Shartia Brantley reports.
Consumers shift to online holiday shopping continues to grow and Amazon remains one of its biggest beneficiaries. The e-commerce retail giant reported a record Black Friday holiday weekend - selling three times more of its own products over last year… and that doesn't even include so-called cyber Monday. Consumer electronics remain popular. The Fire tablet and Fire TV Stick were top sellers. The company did not break out sales numbers by product. Internet media analyst Victor Anthony said: "This comes as no surprise and is consistent with past trends over the Thanksgiving shopping weekend for Amazon devices. Driving those sales are the promotional discounts and the use of Amazon's heavily trafficked website as a promotional tool, coupled with the added convenience afforded by Amazon Prime." Other retailers had strong weekends too such as Target which said it had record setting online sales over the Black Friday weekend. Wal-Mart and Nieman Marcus had website glitches on Black Friday due to high volume. Shares of Amazon were up in the early trading.
