London Mayor Boris Johnson says Donald Trump is ''out of his mind'' as Londoners petition to block the Republican presidential candidate from entering the UK. Nathan Frandino reports.
On the streets of London... Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's comments on banning Muslims from entering the U.S. are hitting a nerve. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MARKET TRADER, JAVED IQBAL, SAYING: "To me he is not a Donald Trump he is a tramp. The way he talks, yeah, I think it's not worth talking about him. I think he needs to see the doctor. He is not well upstairs. I think he shouldn't be allowed to comment on Britain." And market trader Javed Iqbal is not alone. On the UK Government and Parliament petitions website, a petition to block Trump from entering the UK is gaining popularity, with hundreds of thousands signing on... enough to send the petition to Parliament for debate. Trump's comments also garnered a response from London Mayor Boris Johnson. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LONDON MAYOR, BORIS JOHNSON, SAYING: "Well I think Donald Trump is clearly out of his mind if he thinks that is a sensible way to proceed. You can't ban people going to the United States in that way, or indeed to any country." Britain has an estimated 2.7 million Muslims among its 65 million population. And in the Whitechapel area of east London, which is around 40 percent Muslim, many simply cannot believe that Donald Trump said...what he said. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FISHMONGER, AHMED ABU ADAM, SAYING: "So I think... My opinion I think we need a politician who can unite the people, not divide the people. So I think it's not very wise to say that." But Trump is standing firm. He says his proposal for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States is exactly what the country needs if its to prevent more attacks like last week's massacre in San Bernardino.
