Russian President Vladimir Putin shows off his black-belt level judo skills during a training match with the national team's coach. Rough Cut (no reporter narration)
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) President Vladimir Putin took part in the training session of the country's national judo team in Sochi on Friday (January 8) and held a friendly fight with the team's Italian coach Ezio Gamba. Russian TV footage showed Putin - a judo black belt holder - throwing on the floor one athlete after another. Putin has long cultivated a tough-guy image. He has been shown on TV playing ice-hockey, exercising in the gym, riding a horse, diving to the bottom of the Black Sea and flying with cranes. The judo session was the latest of many events aimed at showing Putin as physically fit, part of a long-running Kremlin drive to show voters that Putin is the right man to run the country.
