Italian police stage a dramatic raid on a cocaine laboratory, arresting five people and seizing contraband worth nearly three and a half million dollars. Two local members of the mafia and three Colombian nationals were taken into custody. Police found 7 kilos of cocaine paste and 20 liters of a cocaine-based liquid in the lab, which was set up in the kitchen of an apartment near Naples. While Italy's mafia is known to be a major European importer of cocaine, the drug usually arrives from South America already refined. Police say the bust shows an increased sophistication in camouflaging the drug and speculate that the Colombians had likely come to Italy to explain the extraction process to their Italian partners.
