The cast says to expect more laughs and drama for the fourth season of the Netflix series.
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: The ladies of Orange is the New Black put on their best red carpet wear to celebrate the start of their fourth season on Thursday (June 16) in New York. The series was adapted from Piper Kerman's 2010 biography, of the same name, from her experience while jailed at a women's prison in upstate New York. The show, which premiered on Netflix in 2013, became a hit among audiences and critics, features a diverse cast led by actress Taylor Schilling, who plays a version of Kerman. Actress Laura Prepon, plays incarcerated drug smuggler Alex Vause in the online streaming platform's original series following inmates at a women's prison. On the red carpet cast members said the new season is dangerous, shocking, funny, full of drama and most of all necessary. "We're dealing with a lot of racism and we're deepening that dialogue. We're deepening the dialogue on privatization and for profit prisons. So it's a lot of good things, a lot of shocking things are going to happen this season. We were not afraid about the drama this season," said actress Adrienne Moore. Earlier this year the show nabbed a whopping three-season renewal from Netflix. The deal includes a commitment from showrunner Jenji Kohan to remain at the helm of Netflix's most-watched series through seasons five, six and seven. "Orange Is the New Black" is one of the big shows in Netflix's original programming push led by political drama "House of Cards." The online streaming company has challenged traditional network and cable television by releasing every episode in a season at once. The core "OITNB" troupers for season four are: Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Danielle Brooks, Selenis Leyva, Samira Wiley, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Lea DeLaria, Adrienne C. Moore and Elizabeth Rodriguez Michael Harney and Nick Sandow. The entire season will premiere on Netflix on June 17 at midnight.
