Fiat Chrysler says it will investigate the incident involving a recalled 2015 Jeep Cherokee that killed Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin. Paul Chapman reports.
Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin died on Sunday when, police say, his Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV rolled away and pinned him to a fence. The 2015 model was one of the vehicles recalled by makers Fiat Chrysler because of other roll-away incidents. The company now says it will investigatate Yelchin's death. The firm announced the recall of more than 1.1 million cars and SUVs worldwide in April. The problem is linked to 700 incidents where drivers had mistakenly thought they'd put the vehicles in 'park' before getting out. The company says some may have been confused by the electronic gearshift system which doesn't move along a gate path like conventional gear selectors. Fiat Chrysler's promising a thorough investigation into the events that led to Yelchin's death but says at this state it's premature to speculate on the cause.
