The maker of Wisk and Snuggle laundry products is being bought by the German consumer products group as Henkel challenges P&G. Fred Katayama reports.
P&G's about to face tougher competition. German consumer products company Henkel is buying Sun Products, the U.S. maker of laundry goods like Wisk and Snuggle. The $3.6 billion move will make Henkel the second largest maker of laundry care products in North America where it can better take on P&G. Henkel has muscled its high-end Persil laundry detergent onto shelves right beside P&G's Tide at Walmart stores. Henkel CEO Hans Van Bylen said, "We will improve our position in the USA, the world's largest laundry market." Based in Connecticut, Sun makes laundry detergent, fabric softeners and other household products.
