Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert goes to jail for paying hush money to an abuse victim, a Pennsylvania congressman is convicted of corruption, and NYPD commanders are booked for taking bribes. Ashraf Fahim reports.
Corruption, sexual abuse and bribery. It's been a bad week for politicians and the New York City police department. He was once second in line to the presidency. But here is Dennis Hastert being wheeled in to a prison hospital. The 74-year-old former House Speaker was given 15 months for paying hush money to cover up the sexual abuse of his former wrestling student. And in Pennsylvania a longtime congressman was found guilty of fraud. Prosecutors said Chaka Fattah organized multiple schemes to enrich himself. Fattah represented parts of Philly in Congress for more than two decades. And in New York, three NYPD police commanders and a business consultant were arrested in a federal corruption probe. Prosecutors say the police received favors in exchange for $100,000 in gifts including prostitutes, sports tickets and trips. Investigators are now following the money trail all the way to the Mayor's office, and are looking into the fundraising of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
