ROUGH CUT (no reporter narration) Soap star Antonio Sabato, Jr. lauded presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as a unifying figure in a speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Monday (July 18) The Melrose Place and General Hospital actor spoke to delegates as the Republican National Convention kicked off in Cleveland. While U.S. President Barack Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton "promote division", said Sabato Jr., "Donald Trump is for unity." While Trump has been criticized for xenophobic comments about Latinos and proposals to ban Muslim immigrants, Sabato Jr. said that rather than being "hateful", Trump was trying to make the country secure. The theme on the opening night of the convention is "Make America Safe Again," Trump is being depicted as a strong leader capable of shielding the country from violence and Islamist militancy.
