New Jersey Governor Chris Christie urges Republicans to unite behind nominee Donald Trump in a campaign to defeat Hillary Clinton. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told delegates at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night that they must unite to defeat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in November. Christie declared his support for Republican nominee Donald Trump, only hours after convention chair, Rep. Paul Ryan officially declared Trump the winner of the party's primaries. Christie said little about Trump, but instead concentrated on disparaging Clinton. The New Jersey Republican had been rumored to be under consideration as a running mate for Trump, who named Indiana Governor Mike Pence to join him on the ticket. Some delegates had mounted a bid to name someone other than Trump as the nominee and some walked out when their calls for a roll call vote were denied. Christie made no reference to the revolt, but told the delegates it was time to unite behind Trump.
