Republican Senator Ted Cruz tells supporters he is ''not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father,'' after failing to endorse Donald Trump for president during his convention speech. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican Senator Ted Cruz has told a breakfast meeting of supporters in Cleveland that he did not endorse Donald Trump for president because "I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father." At the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night, Cruz urged Republicans to "vote your conscience" and pointedly did not endorse Trump. Jeers erupted from Trump supporters in the crowd, and Cruz's wife, Heidi, was escorted out by security amid the shouting. Speaking at a news conference in Cleveland on Thursday, Cruz also said, "the standard that I intend to apply is which candidate I trust to defend our freedom and be faithful to the constitution and I can tell you, I'm not voting for Hillary."
