Hundreds of migrants have been rescued off the coast of Libya on their perilous journey to Europe. Yiming Woo reports.
About 500 migrants, most of them air-ritrayans, have been found floating on a wooden boat off the Libyan coast. A Spanish humanitarian group transferred them onto rubber dinghies and then to a larger vessel. This was one of several boats full of migrants rescued in the area on Monday. On Sunday, about 1100 migrants were rescued by the Italian coast guard in the Mediterranean. Hundreds of thousands from North Africa have made the journey to Italy since the beginning of 2014, fleeing violence and poverty. Thousands have died. 2016 is set to be the deadliest year yet -- nearly 3,000 people have already perished in the Mediterranean this year.
