Technology fans start lining up outside Apple stores in Sydney and Tokyo one day ahead of the iPhone 7 launch. But as David Pollard warns, Apple has warned that supplies of some model options are already running short.
Apple fans wait for their next bite. These in Sydney among the first. But will the iPhone 7 taste as sweet as others before - and will some get any taste at all? Student Marcus doesn't care - he's first in the line. Though he would sell his seat - for a price ... (SOUNDBITE) (English) STUDENT, MARCUS BARSOUM, SAYING: "Maybe $4,000, four to five thousand I'd probably say yes. I'd have to think about it, because you know, you are in front, it's not every time you get to be in the front of the line. It's a big hype." In Tokyo too they queue - amid a karmic silence. Some contemplating the prospect of new waterproof features, others a universe with no headphone jack. For others still, the experience brings harmony. (SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) APPLE FAN WHO LINES UP EVERY YEAR, YOSHIYA SENZUWA, SAYING: "Even more than the iPhone, I love being part of the queue and that is why I am here." The consumer tech giant breaking with tradition this time. Not releasing first weekend sales numbers as usual. Tempting some to wonder if demand for the iconic phone is tailing off. Amid worries that the iPhone 7 just doesn't innovate as much as those before. And there's no talk here yet of what the great tech provider itself is saying. Apple warning that initial quantities of the iPhone 7 Plus are sold out. Supplies of the smaller iPhone 7 in a new jet black colour option - also exhausted. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BGC PARTNERS MARKET STRATEGIST, MIKE INGRAM, SAYING: "They've said they've sold out. I haven't actually seen any numbers - maybe I've missed that. So perhaps there's a little bit of smoke and mirrors here. But I would have thought on the face of it there are no particular hooks in terms of this product." Some Apple fans do say they'll hold on until the iPhone 8 anyway. For others, the misery of not knowing whether they'll luck out with a 7 ... too much to take.
