British fashion house Burberry, known for its trench coats and check print, is marking its 160th anniversary this year with a movie, shot in the form of a cinematic trailer, about its founder. Hayley Platt reports.
A fashion favourite among British celebrities. Actress Julie Walters leading the pack with model Naomi Campbell And even Romeo Beckham all having adorned the famous Burberry checks. That was last year's Christmas campaign. This year Burberry celebrates 160 years in the business - with a short-film featuring its founder. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR, ASIF KAPADIA, SAYING: "The film is really the story of Thomas Burberry. It's the story of Burberry as a man, and the person who created the fabric which created the label, which has become a huge kind of fashion brand." But the REAL big gun in Burberry's war chest. The iconic trench coat has become a best seller. Especially with the Chinese love of luxury. Thomas Burberry's invention of the fabric gabardine put the British military at the top of the best dressed list. And with Brexit storm clouds hanging over Europe amid a still damp global economy, some would say it's a good thing he made it weatherproof. ///
