ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Hong Kong rang in the New Year on Sunday (December 31) with a dazzling fireworks display. The annual fireworks shone above the iconic cityscape as thousands of people celebrated the arrival of 2017. In Taiwan, the country's tallest skyscraper, the Taipei 101 tower, rang in the New Year with a spectacular display launched from the iconic 508-meter-tall (1666.67 ft) tower. Thousands of people gathered on the streets near the venue in celebration. According to Taipei 101's official website, this year marked the first time that LED lights were combined with the fireworks, complimenting the mostly golden sparks flying off of the skyscraper. The theme of this year's show, "Lighten up Taiwan," borrowed its title from President Tsai Ing-wen's election campaign. Tsai took office in May this year.
