Sept. 6 - SpaceX and Telsa Motors founder Elon Musk shows off hands-free 3D product design, just like Hollywood's Iron Man. Conway G. Gittens reports.
RESENDING TO CORRECT MISSING VIDEO IN FIRST TWO FRAMES From a scene in Iron Man to a scene in real life: SpaceX founder Elon Musk is seen here using hand gestures, manipulating a 3D computer image to aide in the design of a rocket engine, much like the fictional character Tony Stark in Hollywood blockbuster "Iron Man 3". Instead of using a traditional keyboard and mouse, Musk is using technology from Leap Motion and Siemens to alter a design real-time - and then send it to a 3D printer for manufacturing. Musk has been on a roll this summer - building on his reputation as a key innovator with designs for the Hyperloop people transporter and plans to drive cross-country to prove his popular Tesla S electric car has enough juice to make the trip.
