First lady Melania Trump has settled a defamation lawsuit against a Maryland blogger, and filled another one against the owner of UK's Daily Mail. Fred Katayama reports.
First lady Melania Trump settling a defamation lawsuit against a Maryland blogger, Trump's lawyer, Charles Harder, called it a "substantial sum." The blogger's name is Webster Tarpley. Harder said Tarpley last summer wrote about unsubstantiated rumors she had worked as an escort and falsely said she suffered a breakdown. Trump sued Tarpley as well as Mail Media, the owner of the British tabloid, Daily Mail, which also published an article that falsely alleged she had worked for an escort service. That latter suit was dismissed. But on Monday, Melania Trump filed a new one - for $150 million - against Mail Media in New York state court. She claims the article had cost her millions of dollars in potential business. Trump has Harder in her corner. He's the same lawyer who won a $140 million invasion of privacy verdict for wrestler Hulk Hogan against the now-defunct blog, Gawker.
