German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov were among the officials who arrived at Munich's Bayerischer Hof hotel on Saturday (February 18) for the second day of the 53rd Munich Security Conference. The annual event draws together leading politicians and representatives from NATO, the European Union and the United Nations for three days of panel discussions and bilateral meetings. Security was tight around the luxury hotel on Saturday morning as Merkel and Lavrov arrived, both scheduled to give speeches at the conference. The chancellor was due to hold a series of bilateral meetings throughout the day, including with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.
