ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters on Friday (April 7) that he supports Washington's air strikes on Syria. "I think the strike was well planned, well executed. It was certainly more than a pin prick," said McConnell. He said the strikes, "sends a message not only to Assad that using chemical weapons again is something he cannot do with impunity, but I think it also reassures our Sunni-Arab allies that America is back." U.S. allies around the world expressed support on Friday for Washington's air strikes on Syria, calling them a proportionate response to Syria's suspected use of chemical weapons. The strikes were denounced as illegal by Syria itself and its allies Russia and Iran. But a wide range of U.S. allies from Asia, Europe and the Middle East expressed support, if sometimes cautiously, in similar terms.
