A moment of silence is held at Bowie State University for fallen graduate Second Lieutenant Richard Collins, who was fatally stabbed at the University of Maryland over the weekend. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Second Lieutenant Richard Collins III, 23, is honored at Bowie State University's graduation ceremony on Tuesday (May 23), after he was fatally stabbed by a white University of Maryland student on the weekend. "One of our graduates in the prime of his life has fallen victim to an unprovoked assault in yet one more manifestation of the senseless violence permeating our society," said Dr. Mickey L. Burnim, President of Bowie State University. Sean Urbanski, of Severna Park, Maryland, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of Second Lieutenant Richard Collins III, 23, early on Saturday, according to police. Urbanski, 22, approached Collins and two friends on a campus sidewalk and told Collins, who was commissioned as an officer on Thursday, "Step left, step left if you know what's good for you," Mitchell said. When a puzzled Collins said, "No," Urbanski stabbed him in the chest, the police chief told a news conference. An investigation showed that Urbanski was part of the Alt-Reich Facebook group, which carries racially and sexually charged material, and triggered a probe into whether Collins' death was a hate crime, according to authorities.
