President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said there is no 'reverse gear' or 'backsliding' on the Paris Agreement as President Trump withdraws the U.S. from the accord. Rough cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. China and the European Union agree on the need for international solutions to climate change and there can be no 'backsliding' on the Paris Climate Agreement, said the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker on Friday (June 2). It comes as U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States would withdraw from the 2015 Paris climate deal on Thursday (June 1), a move that fulfilled a major campaign pledge but drew condemnation from global leaders and executives. Juncker was speaking at a conference on EU-China business, with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Brussels for a series of meetings with top European Union officials in Brussels on Friday. The EU and China are expected to issue a joint statement at the end of the visit - the first ever issued by the two - committing both sides to full implementation of the Paris accord.
