Amazon.com expanding its physical presence. Kohl's will begin selling Amazon devices at its department stores starting October. Amazon employees will staff 1,000 foot zones within 10 Kohl's stores in Los Angeles and Chicago. They'll sell smart home appliances such as Amazon's voice-controlled virtual assistant Echo and Fire tablets. Kohl's has been trying to snap its streak of falling sales for six straight quarters. It becomes the latest retailer to tie up with Amazon. The announcement comes just one week after the e-commerce giant completed its acquisition of the upscale supermarket chain, Whole Foods. Earlier this summer, Sears signed a deal to sell its Kenmore home appliances on Amazon. Moor Insights & Strategy president Patrick Moorhead said, "Kohl's won't solve their biggest problem just by partnering with Amazon. They're likely to be looking to be acquired or invested in. I could see Amazon making an investment or purchasing it." Kohl's shares, down 18 percent this year, jumped at the start of trading Wednesday. This news comes on the same day Home Depot said it will allow its customers to shop through Google's voice assistant, Google Home, beginning this fall.
