ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Story: Florida Governor Rick Scott has asked the federal government to declare the state a major disaster area as Hurricane Irma brings high winds and deadly storm surge into the state. Scott said he made the request directly to President Donald Trump Sunday morning, as the category 4 storm was making landfall in the Florida Keys. The storm is expected to bring damaging winds and rain through densely-populated areas along the west coast of the state and into the panhandle. Scott said the state had thousands of law enforcement, national guard troops and other personnel ready to begin helping residents as soon as the storm passes.
