An early start for 'Black Friday' in New York City as crowds of shoppers hit the shops on Thanksgiving evening. No reporter narration.
Bargain hunters in New York City poured into Macy's Department Store, as the retail giant opened its doors early for Black Friday sales on Thursday (November 23). The store opened it's doors promptly at 5pm (2200GMT) and shoppers, who had lined up for hours, quickly began to pour in. Black Friday, as the day after Thanksgiving is called, has traditionally started the holiday shopping season in the United States and was the day when retailers turned a profit, thus going from "being in the red" to "in the black." However, many retailers have started opening their stores on Thanksgiving evening to boost customer traffic and sales, turning Black Friday into a Thursday evening affair.
